Katherine Katze

Electrical Engineering

Academic Background: Throughout my life I always knew I wanted to go into the STEM field, but not which branch. After a few years of participating in the science and robotic programs in high school, I realized that my passion lay in electronics, so I applied for UConn’s electrical engineering program. So far, it’s been great! I’m passionate about my classes, encouraged to learn new material, and I get a blast annoying my friends about random stuff I learned that day.

Research Interests: Currently I am interested in two different ways to apply my degree. The first is designing unique devices which support sustainable green energy; idealistically small enough to be installed into homes. The second is learning more about lighting and sound engineering and applying them to live concerts like the Super Bowl or Disney World.

Professional Experience: For the past two summers I have been interning at Presco, a small engineering company where I’ve been learning a bit about electrical engineering and production. It’s been a great experience since I got hands-on experience with all of the different steps that go into designing, building, and testing a product.

Interests/Hobbies: I’m a huge fan of the great indoors, so you will always find me reading a book, doing some crafts, or playing some board/video games. During finals you can find me at The Benton petting all of the therapy dogs.
